Relevant Educator

As I get ready to bid farewell to another group of student teachers, I will be sharing the book, The Relevant Educator: How Connectedness Empowers Learning by Tom Whitby and Steven Anderson with my future teachers. Many new teachers do not understand the importance of becoming a connected educator.

A connected educator, according to the authors, is someone who believes in sharing and collaborating; uses technology and its connection to other educators to learn and teach; uses the tools of technology to personalize his or her professional development, and is a relevant educator, willing to explore, question, elaborate, and advance ideas through connections with other educators (p.54).

I want my future teachers to become connected educators and this book is just the tool to guide them on this journey. This book is a well designed, easy to read guide which will help any educator become social media savvy. This information-packed resource makes it easy for educators to find and select the best social media tools, products, and communities to start and grow a collaborative, high-quality PLN using Twitter, blogging, LinkedIn, and more.

Connectedness empowers learning is a strong, but true statement. If you would like to be a connected educator, I highly recommend this book.
